Methods To Make Money With A Website
Everyone and their dog seems to have a website these days and while a few people are earning off their sites, most aren´t. For those of you interested in starting up an online business, here is an overview of how you can go about earning with a website.
Ads. This is too large of a category to properly explain here, but basically you have two types of ads, ad blocks and text links.
Ad blocks are where you would put AdSense or any other type of ad that is obviously a commercial use of the space. You can opt to use a pre-existing ad service such as AuctionAds, AdSense, or any number of companies that will provide you with changing blocks. Or, sell your space to specific companies. They will give you a fixed design ad to place in the space and pay by the month or year. This is probably more profitable than the other options, since you aren´t depending on clickthroughs, but I can´t swear on this, since I haven´t tried them myself.
Text links are less intrusive than ad blocks and are simply linkable text within your regular articles and content. Companies such as TextLinkAds make this super simple to incorporate into your website, or again, you can sell links to individual companies and businesses. Most people won´t realize that they are clicking on an ad and if done correctly, text links can actually add value to your page content.
Affiliate Links. For many people, affiliate links are the best way to earn money. When you see a product that you like on a website, check to see if they have a link for Affiliates, Partners or Associates at the bottom of the page or in the sidebar. You sign up for the affiliate program and then promote it on your website, using your affiliate link. Depending on the product, you can earn anywhere from a few cents to hundreds or even thousands of dollars every time someone buys through your link.
Donations. This isn´t the best way to earn money, but let´s say you have a site that offers plenty of quality information and you don´t want to put up too many ads. You can put a little PayPal Donation button at the bottom of the page or in the sidebar and hope that people will be kind enough to toss you a few dollars. Like I said, this really isn´t a good way to earn money, but some people manage to get some grocery cash from this. Donations are best added to a page when you are giving away something that would normally require a fee, such as free software or an ebook, etc.
Memberships. Setting up a membership website is another way to earn some extra money. If you have a good idea for a site that would make people want to pay in order to join, this could be a very good way to go. For example, PLR article sites often require registration and a monthly fee to gain access to the articles and products. If you want to make your program open to all, try tiers, Basic Membership (cheap), Silver (medium) and Gold (expensive).
Sell Products. This is probably one of the most obvious ways to make money with a website. You can design a site specifically to sell your products, whether items you personally make or products that you are reselling, or you can incorporate your products into a content site where you provide useful articles and then offer the items for sale. This works well for websites or blogs, alike.
Services. Why not offer your home business services online? Through a website, you can do everything from online consulting to reading tarot cards and much more. While some services obviously aren´t appropriate for websites, there are plenty that can be adapted to a website. If you are accustomed to counseling, for example, you could offer to do one-on-one therapy sessions on your site.
These are the main ways to earn money with a website. Please feel free to let me know what you think of them and add a comment if you have another method of earning money online!
