Organizing Projects and Deadlines
November
3rd
Things were a bit of a mess around here yesterday. About 6 am, I realized that I had misread a deadline. Upon checking, it turned out that the articles were due in a couple of hours, rather than the couple of days I thought I had. As a result, I had two deadlines crashing down at the same time . . . something that could have been easily prevented and a lot less stressful!
It´s always a good idea to double check your deadlines, but as I´ve discovered, it´s also important to find a way to put them in front of you . . . just having them in a Word document on your computer isn´t enough. Here are a few ideas to keep your deadlines straight.
- Have a giant wall calendar to mark projects. Try writing with a different color marker for each project, with a line to the deadline date.
- Make a card with the project name, details and deadline date to stick up on your bulletin board, rearrange as new projects come in so everything is always in the order it has to be finished.
- Use Remember the Milk to remind you when things are due. They have a variety of ways to be reminded, including an email and it´s free.
How do you stay on top of your deadlines and projects?
