The Art of Bike Parking Etiquette

Nowadays bicycles are becoming a transportation option for many people who may not have considered it in the past. Whether for the health benefits, the low cost, or for the lack of pollution (unless you count sweat) bikes are getting popular. The BBC reports that there is 91% more cyclists in London than in 2000.
Most cities around the globe are not adequately equipped to deal with this emerging bike culture. Although some are starting to design bike lanes, and special parking options - it’s still kind of a renegade activity. One big issue here is finding a place to park your bike, either at home, or out and about.
The BBC came up with five bike parking guidelines that will help you be a better bike citizen.
- don’t lock your bike to a strangers bike - big no no.
- not all street furniture is fair game for locking up bikes - park politely and neatly
- respect communal space - don’t block stairs, walkway’s and doors-try to keep it in your own space
- bikes on a train - try to avoid rush hours, the bikes slow down the crowds
- office protocol- keep it out of sight, in a garage or storage closet
