Andrew Andrew Dance for MAC

Wednesday, den 6. August 2008

This would be just another ho-hum collaboration/YouTube marketing campaign were it not for the involvement of Andrew Andrew, whom we adore. MAC Cosmetics has hired the pair to sing and dance in several videos on their branded YouTube channel in the name of celebrating creativity (and selling makeup).
Still, it’s fun to watch Andrew Andrew’s artist-themed [...]

Wednesday, den 6. August 2008

It’s hard to beat lettuce picked fresh from your own garden. Growing it successfully is another thing altogether. So finding this man at the local market selling mini lettuce farms was a boon. He also sells bok choi farms so we have fresh greens for our stir-fry dinners.
It’s Thursday here now, but still Wednesday [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “Wordless Wednesday: Portable Lettuce Farms”, url: “http://www.thinkinghomebusiness.com/2008/08/07/portable-lettuce-farms/” });

Why People Comment in a Post

Wednesday, den 6. August 2008

Every reader will not comment. Whatever you do, a lot of people will bounce back without writing a comment. And if you are expecting that all the visitors of your blog would comment, you might be a fresher in blogging or a daydreamer.

Which posts get more comments?

  • Posts which are dealing with a problem or providing a solution: Think about a designer who has just released a new template in a post and people are having problems in using it. Also think about a hack that is not easy to install or apply. In most of the cases, these comments are asking for a solution and you are playing the role of the customer service guy…
  • You are famous or belong to something famous like Google:  One of my comments in a famous blog got me around 160 visitors in one day (perhaps the comment had some worth and that’s why people clicked…lol). A lot of people think that it helps them in branding and that’s why they comment although often they have nothing to say. (as far as branding is concerned, it depends on the worth of your comment - otherwise you are just wasting your time)
  • The issue is burning and everyone has something to say about it: If the issue is political or relates to something like hike in Gas price and you are blaming the authority, you may expect some comments.
  • I don’t agree: This is another big comment fetcher - disagree to a common notion and you will find a lot of people telling you why you are wrong.
  • I am a film star or a Political Leader: you are bound to get lots of comments for whatever you write … lol
  • You could not stand up to your promise: Wait for thousands of curses.

But what do you do when someone writes his or her first comment in your blog - and that too a good one?

You feel happy - but what else?

Why don’t you write a personalized mail to him or her and welcome to your blog? A good email can bind the reader with your blog for a longer time than the post itself. And as far as my experience is concerned, this is perhaps the best way to retain visitors (those who comment) in your blog. And it does not take much time. (Don’t depend on the plug-ins alone - write it yourself)

You must pay special attention to people who comment - in the long run they will make your blog famous and running.

Backing Up the Cloud & Keeping It Human

Wednesday, den 6. August 2008

On Monday, Nick Saber had the harrowing experience of being temporarily locked out of all his Google services. A cryptically simple message saying ” Sorry, your account has been disabled” was the only clue as to why this happened. After sending several emails to customer service, Saber only got a vague automated response. Keep in [...]
