French designer David Portela released some new CG images of his proposal for the redesign of the iconic Citroen 2CV. The original economy car had one of the longest production runs of any automotive model (spanning from 1949-1990). Portela took ques from the original grill, floating headlights, and fenders and merged them with a more avant-gardist silhouette. A elegant but somewhat still low frills polished metal finish looks like it came straight from a classic jet aircraft.

Citroen has been toying with bringing back the 2CV in a modern updated form. Some images have been circulating around the internet and speculation of a concept unveiling in 2009 has been suggested. With interest in small cars surging, it just might be the signal of another long run for the “tin snail”.
