Official Flash Sale on Twitter, MySpace

On Black Friday, while many retailers are biting their nails hoping for decent sales, streetwear brand Official will be taking matters into their own hands. Trying to connect with their consumers in an innovative way, Official will be using MySpace and Twitter to offer “flash sales” to their more loyal fans. Basically, a flash sale alert will be sent out via Twitter (@officialtwit) and to the brand’s MySpace friends at designated times. The sale item is simultaneously placed on sale at the website, where it will remain on sale for a limited amount of time or until a certain quantity runs out.

Of course, brands have long been connecting with consumers on MySpace, but more and more we’re seeing Twitter being used as a way to reach hardcore fans, both for branding and for direct sales. Other retailers are on the bandwagon too - Zappos (@zappos) and Whole Foods (@wholefoods) are two that come to mind.
