25 Things is a Virus

Thursday, den 12. February 2009

Are ideas literally contagious? It sure seems like it when watching the wildfire spread of memes on the internet. A recent Slate piece shows that the act of “going viral” may be structurally more like its biological counterpart than previously thought. Studying the hyped-up “25 things” meme from Facebook revealed that the spread of the idea was strikingly similar to a virus outbreak,  including mutation and  epidemic progression.

Slate explains:
Since I’m no evolutionary expert, I shipped Slate’s data to Lauren Ancel Meyers, a biology professor at… Continue reading 25 Things is a Virus

Thursday, den 12. February 2009

One of our favorite collections exhibited at Copenhagen Fashion Week (which ended last weekend) was from Danish brand Woven Flesh.

Established in 2006, Woven Flesh is inspired by the shapes of Japanese packaging, Slovakian folk tales and New York street music. Their goal is to produce 4-5 collections per year, each based on a universal theme and all the fears and wonders of the world, especially the darker ones.

The new collection “Nevermore” is inspired by the American author and poet Edgar Allan Poe’s macabre and mystical stories.

Nevermore will be available… Continue reading Copenhagen Fashion Week: Nevermore’s Dark Designs

Seeing Things Differently

Thursday, den 12. February 2009

There’s that old saying about talking a lot and not saying much. Coudal Partners points out two ways of looking at the world and actually seeing things.

The Blog of Unnecessary Quotes features a collection of images where the use of quotes convey unintended messages.

And they also point to a collection of infrared photography, which uses filters to block out and enhance certain colors in the visual spectrum, creating surreal, dreamlike images before retouching.

By taking advantage of what is already out there… Continue reading Seeing Things Differently
