Event Review: Valentine’s Day “Confessional Culture Variety Show”
Monday, den 16. February 2009
We attended a very special Valentine’s Day party on Saturday, hosted by Housing Works Cafe in NYC and featuring performances by PostSecret, Found Magazine, Mortified, Six-Word Memoirs, Cassette from my ex, and music by Michael Hearst of One Ring Zero. The sold-out show brought together a motley crowd of confessors, voyeurs, and a mix of the two - all interested in spending their Valentine’s Day hearing about other people’s love stories, and in turn reminiscing about their own.
One of the most entertaining bits of the night involved the guitar-accompanied singing of strangers’… Continue reading Event Review: Valentine’s Day “Confessional Culture Variety Show”

When Graffiti Doesn’t Get You Street Creds, Fall Back on Genrification
Monday, den 16. February 2009While walking down Bedford Ave in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we happened across this humorous mural poking a bit of fun at the commercialization of neighborhood. The piece comes from Colossal Media, an outdoor advertising company specializing in hand painted murals. Colossal is also responsible for those ‘authentic’ looking Dewars ads around the city, but the above mural appears to be nothing more that an ad for themselves - which is interesting in and of itself.
This is an outdoor media company who relies on… Continue reading When Graffiti Doesn’t Get You Street Creds, Fall Back on Genrification

Guy Limone is a Paris-based artist whose works offer fresh, perspective-shifting ways of looking at the world around us. Some of his most notable pieces bring census data to life through creative illustrations comprised of figurines and bold installations. The piece above, called ’My 225 Square Meter in Paris’, reflects the average living space of a Parisian in 2004. The piece below, part of his exhibition “Inferencias” at Spain’s GACMA in 2008, depicts the growth of the nation’s population through hand-painted, brightly colored figurines engaged in various, sometimes absurd, activity.

Monday, den 16. February 2009
A short video by Streetfilm follows up on the photos we shot a while ago of the greenspace that had been created to the west side of Madison Square Park. The film looks at the changes that took place - including bike lanes, seating and rerouted traffic - to make it a win-win for everyone who passes through the area.

Event Review: “Social Media For the Long Haul”
Monday, den 16. February 2009“Here’s a brand strategy: care.” So said WineLibrary.TV’s Gary Vaynerchuk at the concluding panel of NYC’s Social Media Week called “Making the Brand: Social Media For the Long Haul.” The discussion included Vaynerchuk, Ian Schafer (founder/CEO of interactive marketing agency Deep Focus), Brian Morrissey of AdWeek, and moderator John Adell of Wired.com.
The consensus at the talk seemed to be that many companies treat social media as a tool divorced from branding strategy. They bring on social media ‘experts’ who help use it without addressing the… Continue reading Event Review: “Social Media For the Long Haul”
