Don’t be a spammer in social networks
Friday, den 6. March 2009pWhat is the main challenge of a marketer - online or offline!/p
pIf you ask me the same question, I would say, the biggest challenge a marketer faces is to stay normal. He or she has a motto to visit and this is what makes them far from being normal. Do you really think that you would have reacted in the same way as you do as a marketer of the product!/p
pI am writing this because I am annoyed (just like you) with some so called marketing experts who simply spam different social networks. It is not all their fault - everybody wants easy and fast results. For example, think about the social network you use the most. All of a sudden you find out some irrelevant links or comments are getting in your way. You have not necessarily given them the permission to interrupt you. To make it a bit clearer, think about someone following you on Twitter. Whatever he or she does, should not bother you as long as you are not following him or her. However, whenever someone is following you, you may receive an email alert and there are high chances that you will take a look at his or her profile. And most of those profiles invariably have a link to a website. You might even get to the website if you do not find enough or convincing information about the person who is following you./p
pHe or she has got a visitor and you have got lots of annoyance. At the same time, there is no need for the spammer to rejoice. They have only earned an annoyed visitor, spent some of their bandwidth and efforts for nothing./p
pIf you are planning a social media campaign to promote your business, here are my suggestions:/p
pstrong1/strong. Set a goal: it is very important to know what you want to achieve from the time and money that you are going to invest in a social network. Try to make it measurable. This will also help you to identify the best social networks in your niche./p
pstrong2/strong. Plan a few months in advance. Take this time to develop an identity in that social network. Make it a habit that if you promote your link once, you will compensate it with at least five other authentic or good links. In the long run, it will help you to stay normal in that social network./p
pstrong3/strong. Be regular: we often come across people who visit a social network only when they have something to sell. Never do this. Save some time everyday to invest on the social network. It is always better to spend one hour over five days rather than spending 2 hours on a single day and than getting evaporated for a few weeks./p
pstrong4/strong. Would you like to add a point? Write a comment and I will add it here./p

World’s Most Admired Companies
Friday, den 6. March 2009
Fortune Magazine has released its survey of the top 50 most admired companies in the world. Their top 10:
1 Apple
2 Berkshire Hathaway
3 Toyota Motor
4 Google
5 Johnson & Johnson
6 Procter & Gamble
7* FedEx
7* Southwest Airlines
9 General Electric
10 Microsoft
For such a global subject, though, there seem to be a large American bias. It does raise interesting questions about what it means to be admired. Some companies (Apple, Nike) are expected; others (Bank of America, Goldman Sachs) are bound to raise a few eyebrows given the current economic situation. What qualities do… Continue reading World’s Most Admired Companies

Interactive Urban Wallpaper
Friday, den 6. March 2009Media architecture collective, Urban Alliance, recently installed what they call “interactive urban wallpaper” in a pedestrian tunnel in Amsterdam. Made from 2,500 LEDs set behind a ribbed, semi-transparent wall, the lights react to people’s movement as they they walk through the tunnel. In addition to making it less vulnerable to graffiti, the curves in the wall also enable the images to be seen more clearly from outside the tunnel.
Urban Alliance is composed of Dutch architects Studio Klink, production company Illuminate

Every Day Has to be a Special Occasion

Sugarcane Bagasse: A Profitable Residue
Friday, den 6. March 2009Brazil continues to develop its “natural knowledge economy” by investing in opportunities for innovation based on the country’s natural resources. Sugarcane bagasse, once a worthless residue is now an important co-product used for the generation of energy and production of ethanol, among other things.
The use of the bagasse for energy begins in the sugar cane processing plants, which have become self-sufficient by using the residue. Last year, over 140 million tons of the residue were used for power generation, as opposed… Continue reading Sugarcane Bagasse: A Profitable Residue

Ultimate 3D Printing: Intel’s Shape-Shifting, Programmable Matter
Friday, den 6. March 2009The following video is absolutely mind blowing. Intel and a group of academic researchers are is working on a programmable matter, a shape shifting material that can take on any shape, physical property or color that will rapidly transform into literally anything. It works by moving around microscopic glass spheres called catoms that have processing power and electricity generating capabilities built in. And although they have created small working prototypes in the lab, unfortunately, the video is an animation, a concept design of what they are hoping to achieve. If and when programmable matter becomes a reality, it will be… Continue reading Ultimate 3D Printing: Intel’s Shape-Shifting, Programmable Matter

Art from Infamous Inmates, Evidently Recession-Proof
Friday, den 6. March 2009Earlier this week, eight paintings by the infamous Kray Twins, East End’s most notorious criminals, were privately sold for £12,200 in Andover and put forward by an anonymous vendor. In total, seven landscapes and one seascape by the twins were sold, all of which had been painted in HMP Parkhurst and Broadmoor prisons.
Whilst the estimated value of the paintings was only £500-£800 each, an image of the two brothers crossing a field in top hats fetched a £1,850.00, becoming the most expensive sale of the day. Other paintings included a… Continue reading Art from Infamous Inmates, Evidently Recession-Proof
