China is arguably the most difficult market in the world to sell legitimate digital music downloads. This is largely due to Baidu’s free mp3 search that dominates the market and generates huge profits for the Chinese search engine. However, there is one group of people who are making a decent living off digital downloads by hacking Apple’s iTunes gift vouchers.

Hilton Hotels Leverages Design for New Denizen Brand

Boutique hotels have long used design as their driving character attribute. For larger hospitality organizations, elevating design to a level equal to service or amenities has taken much longer to realize. Hilton hopes its new collection of hotels called Denizen attract travelers seeking something different. Hilton previewed the concept at the International Hotel Investment Forum in Berlin by mocking up one of the rooms in a shipping container which was delivered to the event.

An 11,000 Mile Journey on a Boat Made of Recycled Plastic Bottles

David de Rothschild of Adventure Ecology is undertaking an 11,000 mile journey from California to Australia on a boat almost entirely made out of recycled plastic. His goal is to illustrate the possibilities of material recycling, and cradle to cradle design.

Guardian Open Platform: Almost Free and Total Access

As a follow-up to our post from yesterday discussing the gray areas surrounding the “fair use” of online material, we learned that the Guardian has settled any debate concerning their own publication in one bold move, almost. Using Your Hand as a Remote Control

The Denso Corporation has created an electric ring named Yubi-nya that can be used as a remote control. Wearers of the ring can operate devices and control remote processes by just pressing two fingers together. The ring produces a weak electric current that is conducted outwards through the user’s index finger. Audi Posts Record Profits, Unleashes Interactive Annual Report

While 2008 left nearly every other automaker stranded on the side of the road, Audi managed to record its best year of sales ever. The company earned $42 billion in revenue during 2008, a 4.1 percent increase from a year earlier. More Audis were exported to China in 2008 than any place else in the world. Audi plans to share $407 million in bonuses with its German factory workers.
