Digitizing the Imagination
Monday, den 16. March 2009Frantz Lasome is working on an augmented reality toy concept that takes make-believe and lays it out in front of your eyes. His project lets kids use their old toys as game pieces and controls in an virtual world. Players battle it out, assigning weapon functions to their real world toys, and can watch the virtual action through special glasses. Though it seems like a fantastic toy, you have to wonder how immersion in an augmented world will effect kid’s developing minds. Like the “is Google making us stupid… Continue reading Digitizing the Imagination

MEDIA ARTS MONDAYS: Just Noticeable Difference
Monday, den 16. March 2009Just Noticeable Difference (jnd) is a scientific term that describes the minimal amount of change in a stimulus it takes to be perceived. For example, how much louder does a sound have to get or how much heavier does an object have to be for you to notice the difference? But it may also be a good way to think
about the dynamic between audiences and brands. Psychologists have suggested that as much as 95 percent of human behavior is controlled by the unconscious mind; we are creatures of habit that learn… Continue reading MEDIA ARTS MONDAYS:

Monday, den 16. March 2009Core 77 points out two remarkable design projects that were inspired by constraints and less-than-ideal conditions.
First is the Morro sofa, which is made out of lots of little cubes salvaged out of foam waste from discarded traditional sofas. Morro is a slang word for the favelas in Rio, which are hillsides covered in houses made out of whatever is available. The second piece is a public art installation, and shade source named Jugaad, which is made out of old pieces of oil cans. They explain… Continue reading Jugaad & Morro: Design With What You Have

Prosthetic Finger is a USB Drive
Monday, den 16. March 2009Jerry Jalava lost part of his left ring finger in a motorcycle accident a few years back. His doctor, hearing that he was a software developer, suggested he install a USB drive where his finger used to be. Jalava did just that, and he now has a cyborg-like digital storage device on him at all times.

MEDIA ARTS MONDAYS: Brand Surface Area
Monday, den 16. March 2009For audiences, brands are simply personal collections of events that make up a total overall experience. It’s a real-time running tally of the things people feel, whether good, bad or indifferent, at every point of contact with a brand, every exposed surface. But most of the time and money spent on marketing is focused on just a handful of media and at specific moments in time. What people hear gets quickly forgotten unless they can see it for themselves in all the ways a brand actually behaves in its daily life—the… Continue reading MEDIA ARTS MONDAYS:

How to save money in the startup phase!
Monday, den 16. March 2009pIn the post titled, #8220;a title=”Permanent Link to Is this right time to start an online business?” href=”../../../../../is-this-right-time-to-start-an-online-business/”Is this right time to start an online business?/a#8221; you can see a a href=”http://www.netbusinessblog.com/is-this-right-time-to-start-an-online-business/#comment-101392″ target=”_blank”nice comment/a by a href=”http://www.semwired.com/”Fabio/a (f). I would especially recommend you to read the last point where he says: #8220;everybody is good enough to run a business with a overall growing economy. Running a business during a global crisis, well, it#8217;s more than just valuable experience#8230;#8221;/p
pYou will not hear such sentences always. This is actually a chance for you to get prepared for the future. As the economic condition is not very favorable, you must learn to reduce development cost, production cost and all others and at the same time must maintain great quality. And this experience will lead you to develop a better business and profit more when the economic conditions are better./p
pHere are some tips to help you to save more money in the startup phase:/p
pstrong1. Web hosting: /strongFind a cheap but good web hosting company. In the initial days of product development, you cannot dream to get thousands of visitors. If you keep your eyes open, you can change your hosting plan as your visitor count grows. And there are always options to move to a better hosting company in almost no time./p
pstrong2. Domain names:/strong Unless very important, do not go for premium domain names and TLDs. Spend some more time in brain storming and you will come up with a better domain name that you can buy for $10 and .com is still the best TLD./p
pstrong3. Product development: /strongI will always recommend you to hire one great professional rather than hiring 3 professionals of moderate quality. In the long run you will save a lot of money and time. The opposite may be true only if you are selling manpower rather than developing a great product to sell./p
pstrong4. Designing:/strong Before hiring someone, try to find out the core need of the product and what you actually want the design to do. After you are somewhat sure about what you want to achieve from the design, enlist it in a contest. A lot of websites like a href=”http://99designs.com/categories/web-page-design-un-coded”99designs/a run similar contests. More importantly, a logo is not the primary concern - you can always change it later./p
pThe motto is to invest on things that are most important and spend wisely./p
pTo be continued:/p

Analog Blogging In Liberia
Monday, den 16. March 2009A low tech approach to news broadcasting is working well for Alfred Sirleaf. He runs a a news and information service called the “Daily News” on the side of a major road in the middle of Monrovia, Liberia. The simple news display consists of a few large blackboards surrounded by some ad space. Sirleaf started the news service as a way to get important news and information into the hands of people who can not afford (or even understand) newspapers. He claims to have 10,000 daily viewers, and runs the… Continue reading Analog Blogging In Liberia
