OneSelf: Hidden Bathroom Pulls Out of the Wall

Thursday, den 19. March 2009

The “OneSelf” is a suite of bathroom gadgets that’s hidden behind a wall of panels, but pulls out for use. Designer Pavel created the OneSelf as a bathroom for people living alone, which would work just fine, but the idea falls flat when guests may come over. Still, it’s a unique space saving design that could be incorporated in a less public fashion.

MEDIA ARTS MONDAYS: Design Thinking: Human-Centric Innovation

Thursday, den 19. March 2009

People have always gravitated to things that are well designed. Design creates desire, but what good design means today is becoming far more than just face value. People expect more of the things they buy and use to serve a purpose; to actually solve a problem or to improve their situation, not just look nice. Good design is human-centric. It satisfies both the audience’s needs and desires, and good designers know how to put the audience experience first to get to ideas… Continue reading MEDIA ARTS MONDAYS:

Social Collider: Watch Ideas Spread on Twitter

Thursday, den 19. March 2009

Social Collider is an interesting data visualization tool that reveals connections between conversations on Twitter. Sascha Pohflepp and Karsten Schmidt created the software, which can make the cultural spread of ideas visible.

Information Aesthetics explains how it works:
One can search for usernames or topics, which are tracked through time and visualized much like the way a particle collider draws pictures of subatomic matter. Posts that did not resonate with anyone just connect to the next item in the stream. The ones that did, however… Continue reading Social Collider: Watch Ideas Spread on Twitter

How to save money in the startup phase during recession

Thursday, den 19. March 2009

pIn my last post I was discussing about a title=”Permanent Link to How to save money in the startup phase!” href=”../../../../../how-to-save-money-in-the-startup-phase/”how to save money in the startup phase/a, especially during such a tight economic condition./p
pThere are two types of products. One needs regular improvement or innovation like an online tool and the other is just a regular website. If you are trying to develop a tool, you would require keeping the development team and this would definitely require more investments. Otherwise, if you are just developing a website for regular use, the last post would have answered all your questions. In fact, you could just ignore hiring one or two programmers to develop the website. Freelancers would be enough to take care of these issues./p
pI know what you are thinking. I agree that a website is not enough to get business. You need to promote it in the target market to get business./p
pIn this situation, you will need to make regular investments on seo and online promotion. And how much you would need to spend depends entirely on your experience, expertise and amount of available time to invest in promotional activities./p
pHowever, if you really need to save some money, you need to get involved with the process. Just commissioning a company to work on seo or sem of your website will not bring in enough good and savings. You must get involved with the process and do as much as you can to keep things moving in the right direction./p
pAs far as SEO is concerned, you can learn it easily and do it yourself. There are so many a href=”http://www.google.com/search?hl=enamp;q=seo+for+beginners”simple guides for beginners/a that you can start practicing it from day one. And trust me, a good guide covers 70% to 80% of seo knowledge that you need to know to run an online business./p
pTo add to this, always go for organic marketing unless you have some immediate need for traffic. (Some business models like seasonal gifts require immediate traffic for business.) Otherwise, always prefer organic ranking in different search engines./p

Visualizing Wireless Signals

Thursday, den 19. March 2009

Touch is a research project that’s exploring NFC, or Near Field Communications. NFC is kind of like the technological “glue” that allows connections between various mobile devices and physical objects.

One of the areas Touch is looking at is how to make invisible wireless signals visible to gather a deeper understanding about them.  On the Touch blog, they’ve posted a gallery of images visualizing the existence of wireless… Continue reading Visualizing Wireless Signals
