NYC Vitamin Water Popup Store Opening Friday

Wednesday, den 1. April 2009

The history of popup stores isn’t without a beverage company or two having a go at a temporary installation. Vitamin Water appears to be moving to another level taking over the former Helio store space on Broadway. Work is still being done but an opening is set for Friday. We’ll have more once the paint is dry.

Nuclear Energy Without the Waste

Wednesday, den 1. April 2009

With the opening of the National Ignition Facility in California yesterday, scientists will now be able to utilize the world’s most powerful laser to create fusion reactions which will afford them greater insight into the nature of planets and stars, but the more practical applications of this technology are what have people really excited. Fusion used in combination with fission - the current process at work in nuclear reactors - has the potential to revolutionize the safety - this model separates neutrons from fuel eliminating the fear of meltdowns -and efficiency… Continue reading Nuclear Energy Without the Waste

Do you have the right keywords?

Wednesday, den 1. April 2009

Does good ranking mean great business? Undoubtedly, the answer is ‘yes’. But what if I ask you the same question from a different perspective: Are you getting enough business in respect to the amount of visitors generated by a particular keyword?

We often tend to overlook this situation. Especially, as long as business volume is going great, we almost ignore these calculations. Do you know how much business you can expect on a certain month for a targeted keyword?

Is it really important?

Yes. It is very important to evaluate performance of a keyword. Come on, to get good ranking for a competitive keyword takes a lot of money and effort. And if you find that the conversion rate for those keywords is less than the cumulative result of secondary keywords / keyword, you get a reason to think twice about that particular keyword. Does it mean that, you should remove that keyword from the list?

The answer (Yes / No) depends on specific situations.

For example, if your main aim is to get visitors to your website, competitive keywords are the best bet. But if you are selling a product via your website, another secondary keyword may be your best bet. But that is not all. This is not the only reason to scrap a keyword.

There may be different reasons for a keyword not performing well. For example, the content or design of the website may not be good enough to guide the visitors (pulled by a particular keyword) to the signup page.

Another important issue to consider is that, super competitive keywords are often not very targeted keywords. For example, think about a keyword like “debt consolidation”. If you can rank well for this keyword, you will get thousands of visitors. But, this keyword does not tell you whether the visitors are looking for information on debt consolidation (pure visitors) or whether they want to consolidate their debt (end users). You will get a mix of both kinds of visitors.

Thus selecting the right keywords for a website is a very tricky affair. In my next post, I will talk about how to select the best keywords for better conversion.

Barcelona’s Vaho Works: High Quality Trashion

Wednesday, den 1. April 2009

Barcelona’s Vaho Works create furniture out of items like shopping carts and oil drums and bags out of banner advertisements and tires. Vaho’s professional-looking and high-quality work (”Trashion”)  have even become part of promotional campaigns, with clients such as ADG-FAD ( a Spanish Graphic Designer and Art Director’s Association), Institut Barcelona Esports, and Grupo Mahou - San Miguel (a brewing company). Like many repurposed products, the items aren’t always cheap. Considering the craftsmanship and ethical benifits, though, Vaho’s products are within reach (about €30 for a small bag or… Continue reading Barcelona’s Vaho Works: High Quality Trashion

Henrique Oliveira’s Urban Detritus Art

Wednesday, den 1. April 2009

Brazilian artist Henrique Oliveira’s mind-bending artwork doesn’t fit into the genre of “street art” – yet the material he uses does come from the streets.

From early on Oliveira experimented with the surfaces of his paintings: he began by gluing newspaper onto a canvas and scraping it as well as mixing sand with paint. He was looking for ways to bring more texture to paintings. A breakthrough occurred while he was a student at the University of São Paulo: for two straight years, the view from his studio window was… Continue reading Henrique Oliveira’s Urban Detritus Art

Lego has created a photo archive of every mini-figure they have created since 1978. These mini-portraits give us a glimpse into all the different Lego sets created over time and a bit of nostalgia for those of us that grew up with mini-figs.
