Kidrobot Summer ‘09 is Nouveau-Punk

Tuesday, den 7. April 2009

Sure it looks a lot like BAPE or a Kanye West album cover, but that’s what the kids want this summer. And we actually like how wearable and unpretentious Kidrobot’s new “KidPunk” line is, even if they do describe it as “combining 80’s punk edginess with KidRobot fun.”

Ford Fiesta: PSFK Drives the US-Bound Affordable Premium Small Car

Tuesday, den 7. April 2009

If you were in Soho NYC this morning you might have caught a glimpse of a bright green hatchback swerving through the cabs…that was us. The car in question is the new US bound Ford Fiesta already drawing favorable reviews from Europe. The sleek exterior goes a long way to bury the term econobox. The five door hatchback, like the new VW Polo we mentioned previously, has a very refined feel… Continue reading Ford Fiesta: PSFK Drives the US-Bound Affordable Premium Small Car

Pay-for Content, Secrets to the Cellphone’s Success

Tuesday, den 7. April 2009

When we look at the discussion happening around monetizing content on the web, payment models from the likes of the Wall Street Journal, Consumer Reports and Apple’s iTunes are the successes that are most often held aloft as potential saviors for an entire industry of producers, but no one seems to be talking about the quiet successes of cellphone providers. Consumers are increasingly using their mobile devices to download everything from games to ring tones and often for a price, yet no one seems to be complaining about not being able… Continue reading Pay-for Content, Secrets to the Cellphone’s Success

PUMA: Two Wheeled Personal Urban Transportation

Tuesday, den 7. April 2009

Project PUMA (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility) is a new joint venture between General Motors and Segway. They’ve created a two-wheeled electric vehicle designed for urban use, that can get up to 35 mph, and supposedly gets 35 miles from a single charge. Kind of cool, no doubt - but wouldn’t a bike be a better, less complicated solution for urban transport? The PUMA will be shown at the New York Auto Show this week

Crunch Gear has more:
Aside from the promise of nimble, inexpensive transportation, the… Continue reading PUMA: Two Wheeled Personal Urban Transportation

Carry Your Furniture With You, Wherever You Go

Tuesday, den 7. April 2009

Following in the footsteps of the very popular half-jacket, half tent, is the “Messenger Bag Director’s Chair”. It’s a sturdy folding chair that transforms into a easily carried messenger bag. Though I wonder about the actual carrying capabilities of the bag, it’s still a practical design.

George Parker: Relax, We Are in Control, Your Brain is Turning to Mush!

Tuesday, den 7. April 2009

In The Ubiquitous Persuaders, I describe how, in his 1957 classic, The Hidden Persuaders, Vince Packard talks about “Motivational Research” and how “the large-scale efforts being made by advertisers, often with impressive success to channel our unthinking habits, our purchasing decisions, and our thought processes by the use of insights gleaned from psychiatry.” To the reader, this was pretty scary. Particularly when you consider the fifties were rife with rumors of the Red Menace and Manchurian Candidate mind manipulation. As this was in the aftermath of the Korean… Continue reading George Parker: Relax, We Are in Control, Your Brain is Turning to Mush!

Chairs For The Dysfunctional

Tuesday, den 7. April 2009

Alice Wang has created a series of art chairs designed to accommodate very specific users who partake in less than desirable public behaviors. Although it’s a humorous comment on modifying negative human behavior, it does open a dialogue about designing appropriately for different situations.

She explains the project:
The society we live in is changing, shouldn’t the interactive side of these daily objects change with us? Perhaps the function of the objects stay, but it is the process of how we interact with them that must change.

Should there be different… Continue reading Chairs For The Dysfunctional
