Payless Puts One Green Foot Forward
Tuesday, den 14. April 2009
The newest mainstream company to put on its green thumb is Payless, which has just brought organic shoe line zoe&zac to shelves. Following its string extremely successful designer collaborations over the past few years, hopefully this will be one more step toward the mainstreamization of ethically sound consumerism.

George Parker: Will Any Lessons Be Learned from the Enfatico Disaster?
Tuesday, den 14. April 2009Late last week, Enfatico effectively ceased to exist as a stand alone operation. The “Agency of the future,” sixteen months after its creation, became the agency of the past when it was rolled into Y&R. Forgive me for enjoying a brief toot on my horn here, but I’d been forecasting this on AdScam for months, opting for either Grey, or Y&R as the likely home for the struggling enterprise. Launched with much fanfare in December 2007, it was claimed this would be the first agency totally dedicated to servicing… Continue reading George Parker: Will Any Lessons Be Learned from the Enfatico Disaster?

The Race for New Business Models in Journalism
Tuesday, den 14. April 2009With several widely reported newspaper closings, it’s no news that the current business model of journalism is broken. But its rapid evolution has sparked an interesting discussion about possible solutions. Charlie Rose recently hosted a talk between Arianna Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post and Thomas Curley, president and CEO of the Associated Press. It’s a classic battle between developing old media models and creating brand new ones, with the AP arguing that they need to protect the content that’s so costly to produce and HuffPo… Continue reading The Race for New Business Models in Journalism

Review: PickaWeb WebHosting Reseller Business
Tuesday, den 14. April 2009pWhat about starting your own web hosting company almost at the rate of hosting your own website or blog!/p
pDoes it sound impossible? Actually it is not. Starting a web hosting company does not require you to spend money to buy your server, set up and development, maintenance or ongoing technical support etc. You can actually start a web hosting company @ £99 per year (£8.25 per month). Isn’t it the amount you normally spend to run a professional website or blog!/p
pTo start your own web hosting company, all you need to do is to register a reseller account with another web hosting company. That is it. With a reseller account you get the right to resell the hosting space to other people. And with a reseller account you can host unlimited domains, setup your own hosting plans for the clients, assign individual control panels to your customers, website builder for your customers and many more things./p
pDon’t believe me? Take a look at a href=”http://www.pickaweb.co.uk”Picka Web/a. They offer web hosting reseller account for the same price in UK. For £8.25 per month, you actually get 8 GB space and 30 GB Bandwidth. Good deal huh! /p
pWe often come across situations, where we can easily take the opportunity to sell a hosting plan – even if you never had a plan to get into online hosting business. Just calculate how many people have already consulted you about starting a website or blog. You could easily start an online web hosting business with them. /p
pWorried about technical support? They provide 24#215;7 technical support in case you or your customers need one./p

Price Hikes for Print Media
Tuesday, den 14. April 2009
According to a recent New York Times article, major magazine publishers are considering raising prices on their newsstands and subscription issues. However, the short term benefits may hurt the publications consumer base and reputation in the long run. Magazines are getting desperate to retain revenues during the recession, but considerations of online content pay walls and higher prices are threatening readership numbers, data highly valued by advertisers.
A careful balance of readership retention and advertising value is necessary for the long term survival of print media. Subscription… Continue reading Price Hikes for Print Media

Find Water Everywhere You Go in NYC
Tuesday, den 14. April 2009
The folks behind the TapIt Water initiative are taking the ‘convenience’ excuse out of the case for bottled water. Combining popular mobile technologies and grassroots on-the-ground efforts, the program connects empty-canteen-carrying water seekers with cafes and restaurants who offer good, clean, NYC tap water at no charge and with no dirty you-need-to-buy-something looks.
Cafes sign up to be TapIt Partners, supplying their location and how they plan to make water accessible. Users can then log onto the site, or access its search and mapping features via an iPhone or Smartphone application… Continue reading Find Water Everywhere You Go in NYC

MLA Handbook: Print is No Longer the Default Medium
Tuesday, den 14. April 2009Print is no longer the default medium according to the latest edition of the Modern Language Association’s handbook for academic citation. The MLA’s style bible for research paper writers has incorporated many changes that point to the ongoing cultural shift away from the printed word.
This seventh edition says “that the medium of publication should be included in each works cited entry” rather than assuming it’s print. The MLA has also decided to eliminate specific URLs in citations, claiming they often are… Continue reading MLA Handbook: Print is No Longer the Default Medium

The Art of Living in a Van
Tuesday, den 14. April 2009An artist couple from San Francisco has transformed a pink Ford Econoline 350 into a mobile studio apartment. Furnished almost entirely by free items from Craigslist, the scrappy mobile home has served as a base of operations as Crockett Bodelson and Sandra Wang traversed the west coast selling their artwork. Stuffed inside the truck are an upright piano, a stove, a table with chairs, a large workshop area, some mattresses… Continue reading The Art of Living in a Van
