Apparently YouTube said that it would add two new tabs to the top of its site - A ‘Shows’ tab which allows you to browse shows by genre, network, title and popularity and a ‘Subscriptions’ tab which will allow logged-in users one-click access to the latest content from… Continue reading YouTube Does Movies

Paper Cut Art

Thursday, den 16. April 2009

Miami-based artist Jen Stark creates wildly beautiful sculptures by cutting and layering concentric cutouts of colored construction paper (try saying that ten times fast). Her sculptures have received a great deal of press (including Wallpaper*, while she was still in art school, and Wired, among others), but check out her equally beautiful animations, which are completely memorizing.

MUJI Launches Online Store in the US

Thursday, den 16. April 2009

After successively opening 4 stores throughout NYC (in Soho, Times Square, Chelsea, and the most recent one inside the updated Jetblue terminal at JFK), MUJI has opened the doors of its new online store, making its sleek, minimalist Japanese design available to everyone in the US. (Probably a better idea than opening a flagship store in a Des Moines Mall right now…)

Spectrum Of Online Friendship

Thursday, den 16. April 2009

mike araouz friends.png

Mike Arauz from Digital agency Undercurrent illustrates his conclusions on online friendship. He says that instead of worrying about terms like ‘friend’ companies should ask how do they move their friends from acquaintanceship to “best friendliness”?

Over on his site Arauz describes each stage in detail and while my own experience with PSFK doesn’t allow me to fully agree with the steps and even the actions he considers fit in each stage it’s a very useful piece to base discussion around. In summary:

Passive Interest e.g. repeat visits, blog… Continue reading Spectrum Of Online Friendship

Kay: Social Ideas not Social Media

Thursday, den 16. April 2009

GarethKay.jpgWriting on the AgencySpy blog, Modernista!’s head of planning Gareth Kay argues that we should stop obsessing over social media and what it can do for a business and instead spend our time trying to deliver social ideas that delight consumers. He says:

Rather than focusing on social media shouldn’t we be focusing on social ideas? This may sound a little trite, but I think it’s important. Rather than (again) using communications as a sticking plaster to cover real fundamental issues a business faces, it forces us to confront what it… Continue reading Kay: Social Ideas not Social Media

Spam, Big Waste of Time and Energy

Thursday, den 16. April 2009

As if spam wasn’t bad enough when it simply flooded our inboxes with promises of vast fortunes held captive in foreign lands and miracle drugs to cure all of life’s ills, new research suggests that it causes as much greenhouse gas to be released each year as 3.1 million cars. The study, conducted on behalf of computer security company McAfee by ICF International showed that nearly 80% of energy use associated with emails was taken up by users deleting unsolicited messages and searching for legitimate correspondence.

Considering the global… Continue reading Spam, Big Waste of Time and Energy

Video: Keith Loutit Envisioning Life in Miniature

Thursday, den 16. April 2009

Sydney-based photographer Ken Loutit puts an extraordinary spin on the rather mundane events in life utilizing a variety of techniques and angles to capture the everyday in miniature. The process, called tilt-shift, refers to the movement of the camera - small or medium format - relative to the image being photographed, resulting in a bird’s eye perspective that re-imagines the commonplace. Loutit takes a series of stills and stitches them together to create short films that invite the viewer to take a second look at the world… Continue reading Video: Keith Loutit Envisioning Life in Miniature
